There’s a dog on the site.
You’ve seen him.

His name is Chuck … King Chuck III (if we’re being formal). He’s ten years old (as of the writing of this blog – 4/20/25) and very much part of this family. Ask anyone who knows us and they’ll tell you, Chuck’s not a pet. He’s … he’s Chuck. A wiry little monument to cra. He’s loyalty, stubbornness, weird joy incarnate, a testament to showing up even when you’re not feeling cute. He’s got a long backstory and besides just being the most gorgeous thing ever that we adore, he’s the underdog of underdogs.

Charmingly Ruff

CarePhilly Crafted

Obviously when we started building Live CarePhilly, Chuck was there. Watching. Snoring. Giving direction and all around just so much pawsitivity. Starring in videos. Offering quiet wisdom from his corner(s) of the loft. It just made sense to let him represent the kind of spirit we wanted the work to carry: not slick, certainly not perfect but real, loyal, and full of gritty Philly heart.

You may have noticed, this site isn’t perfect either. Its a constant work in progress … especially in these first 6 months.

It’s scrappy. A bit underbaked in most places. Some pages are rough. Some are missing. Some could really use some professional styling.

That’s no pitch, clearly.
It’s the truth.

We’re not a media company with a design team. We’re three people.
One of us (me) spent the last few decades in kitchens, not in code.
The other two have day time + night time careers.

But we are building Live CarePhilly with what’s left at the end of the day, and we’re building it CarePhilly (get it? get it? : )

So ya, we want the site to look beautiful. And it will.
But more than that, we want it to feel like what it is: a living, breathing, in-progress effort
to connect creators, nonprofits, and neighbors around something rooted in not just community, but in Love Loving You.
We want people to show up and feel like there’s space for them, even if they’re a bit scrappy, a little messy themselves.

We want everyone to notice not just the polish, but the point.
We hope many of you engage, become apart of shaping whatever comes next. Because while we do believe in the aesthetics of it all, we believe more that purpose supersedes presentation and when we all dance together, no one notices if no one can actually dance. We just do it, together. And it’s awesome. Right?

Chuck’s here because he reminds us what this is really about:
-Loyalty to community betterment, not my own (as he is with us all)
-Love for YOU above me, without expectation of return or even qualification of receipt (as he is with us all individually).

Walking forward even when you are unsure, because you are walking forward in community. The rough edges are here because we haven’t had time to sand them down yet and couldn’t wait any longer to start being there for Philly. But we’re working on it. And we’re excited for your participation!

So ya, this is just the beginning.
If something in this resonates, stick around.
Follow along.
Reach out.
Tell a friend.
There’s room here for more hands, more voices, always for more Love.
We’re not done building yet… I hope we never are.

PS. This last photo is not our workspace … it’s Philly AIDS Thrift’s Disco Party Extravaganza.
Not sure where the photo came from … prolly their instagram.
